Based in Hackensack, New Jersey, Cubby’s BBQ offers home-cooked, traditional American barbecue

A noted restaurant both locally and internationally, Cubby’s BBQ provides high-quality food and excellent service, serving at its location in Hackensack, New Jersey, for more than a quarter of a century. Conveniently located a half-mile from the Central Municipal Court of Bergen County, Cubby’s BBQ offers traditional American barbecue and other home-style food to residents throughout northern New Jersey and the New York City metropolitan area. Along with its exhaustive menu, Cubby’s BBQ offers parties of 5 to 25 people a catering menu that makes parties easy, including a set of staples, such as baby back ribs and half chickens. Cubby’s BBQ even offers parties of more than 25 a chance to arrange their special events with ease.

What brings people back to Cubby’s BBQ is the wholesome food, featuring only fresh ingredients. Cubby’s BBQ’s house specialties include its famous baby back ribs, the Rib and Chicken Combo with a half chicken, and the Hackensack Steak with cheddar cheese and sautéed onions. Alongside these classics, Cubby’s BBQ provides traditional American fare, including regional favorite such as Texas Weiners with spicy chili on top, grilled salmon with salad, barbecue roast pork sandwiches, and rib eye steak. Much of Cubby’s BBQ’s menu is available alone or as a platter with a side of fries, salad, or baked or mashed potatoes.

Cubby’s BBQ holds an even greater role internationally, given its close proximity to the United Nations in New York City. In his book Eating with the Enemy: How I Waged Peace with North Korea from my BBQ Shack in Hackensack, owner Bobby Egan established a rapport with the North Korean government after successfully helping a Vietnamese official defect to the United States while serving as a POW/MIA activist. Becoming an unofficial point of contact and ambassador for the North Koreans for many years, Bobby Egan established back-channel negotiations between the federal and North Korean officials, often utilizing Cubby’s BBQ as the venue. Bobby Egan’s efforts earned recognition from Vanity Fair, National Public Radio, and The New Yorker. Currently, alongside running Cubby’s BBQ, Bobby Egan serves as President of the USA-DPRK Trade Council.
